They are especially important for parents, educators, all kinds of leaders, entrepreneurs, life coaches, healers, and world helpers whose work benefits from having excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

We need this foundation to lead a healthy, meaningful and rewarding life, making full use of our innate intelligence, our inner beauty, and our own array of unique talents.

Without this foundation our ‘house’ can be blown down by any kind of adverse ‘weather’…

A Foundation Built on Quicksand, A World in Crisis

I am Philip Keay, and I have built The Self-Empowerment Academy to transform and heal humankind by radically transforming the way education is done. The way we want it done is based on a methodology known as Task-Based Learning, usually only found in communicative, learner-centred second language classrooms.

Bringing this student-centred, communicative, pioneering educational methodology to the whole world is now an essential, and most urgent, mission because approximately 99% of us receive a schooling that is catastrophic for our emotional, psychological and spiritual development.

Then we enter adulthood.

Our foundation to our life is built on quicksand.

The 5 Pillars barely have a brick between them.

The evidence is all around you and in the media. Our human world is in deep crisis, hurtling along a path of self-destruction. Yes, we have advanced technology and material comforts, but no, we are psychologically suffering and spiritually bereft. We are lost; we are disconnected from our roots and the source of all life.

Stress, struggle and conflict predominate.

Tragically our human essence and inner authority have been suppressed within us. But, the good news is that they simply await your activation and cultivation of them! And that, dear reader, is the business and mission of The Self-Empowerment Academy.

But… for solutions to become a practical reality, we must first face up to the darkness that has descended upon our whole human family. After all, we cannot exercise our free will to solve a problem until we know the nature of the problem!

An Anti-Education Schooling

From my work as a non-conventional educator during the last three decades, bringing a FREEDOM* learning experience to over 4000 adult and adolescent students from about 35 countries, my perspective is that the typical schooling experience—around the world—subjects children to an anti-social, anti-health, anti-fun, anti-human anti-education.

Here is a synopsis which illustrates the devastating nature of our first ‘education’ that, instead of developing and complementing our nature, systematically suppresses and antagonises our nature.

And, as you read the tragic list, do bear in mind we are a social creature who needs healthy relationships with others:

• learning, communication and problem-solving skills suppressed

• social interaction, collaboration and team work skills blocked

• self-knowledge of mind, body and soul not on the curriculum

• innate curiosity, creativity and confidence systematically crushed

• external authority decides everything, inner authority is repressed

• teaching is based on tell, compel and bell, not learning, discerning and earning.

The upshot is that as children, for 12 years and about 15,000 classroom hours, we become disconnected, disempowered, discouraged, demoralised and dehumanised. Our connection, power, courage, morality and human essence is sucked out of us.

And then we enter the adult world.

It is a world of much tension, conflict and war between nations.

It is a world with so much political weakness, corporate corruption, and media manipulation.

It is a world where so many individuals suffer from (often intense) unhappiness, loneliness,

In time we become the next generation of parents, educators, leaders. What can we do but simply perpetuate the vicious cycle by disconnecting, disempowering and dehumanising the next generation of children? We get in their way because we are in our own way. We get in our own way because the adults got in our way when we were the children.

The Self-Empowerment Academy is here to guide all its students out of this intergenerational vicious cycle of self-destructive anti-education and into a virtuous cycle powered by the heart-centred, skills-focused, Task-Based Learning education that underscores the approach to teaching I have refined over the years, ably assisted by a range of excellent teacher trainers along the way.
