My life took a major turn in 1991 when I accidentally emigrated to Thailand. While Thailand is probably one of the very top countries in the whole world for travel adventures and natural beauty, I have nevertheless managed to do some travel in other Asian nations over the years! In 1997 I visited the newly re-opened Cambodia, and again in 2015.
In the main photo you can see the view one gets from the iconic FCCC - Foreign Correspondents Club of Cambodia - looking out over the Tonle Sap River in the capital Phnom Penh. This was the HQ and a very needed watering hole for reporters, journos, and photographers during the tumultous times of the Vietnam war and the aftermath of the brutal Pol Pot rule (backed at the time by Western Governments in the UN). When you sit in this resplendent establishment, with the river view at one end and a view over the Royal Palace at the other end, supping cool draft beers to cool you down from the melting heat of Phnom Penh streets, you very much feel the history of the place come alive in you.
